When he moved to Jacksonville, Corantin Talla was a Cameroon political refugee whose life had been threatened in his native country. Now he's a database consultant with a master's degree who oversees a printer giveaway program.
From 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, Talla will preside over his fourth giveaway since December with 300 printers being distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis to eligible organizations.
The printers are packed in cardboard boxes at Jax Storage Mall, 2825 St. Johns Bluff Road, on the Southside.
Social service agencies, churches, public and private schools and charitable and faith-based organizations are among those eligible.
Dell Computer donated the refurbished printers, which have printing, copying and scanning capabilities.
Ink cartridges and cabling are included.
Dell gave the printers to Gifts In Kind International, a charitable clearing house, for distribution to nonprofit groups in numerous cities.
Talla administers the program in this area for Gifts in Kind, through a charitable corporation that he founded in 2003 called Conscience du Cameroun Inc.
Talla, who resettled in Jacksonville in 1995 and has a master's in public administration from the University of North Florida, said he wanted to help the needy in his adopted community.
He would like to get computers from Dell to distribute to programs serving children, minorities and the handicapped.
Talla, a senior database consultant for Oracle, a software program, said he also wants to create programs to help immigrants from places such as Africa, as well as collect Christmas toys for children and clothing for the homeless.
He hopes to obtain funding to set up a computer training center for new immigrants, many of whom have never seen a computer.
His desire to help others goes back to his student days when he battled what he called widespread corruption.
While at the University of Yaounde in 1991, he founded the Cameroon Student Parliament to fight for students' rights, better academic conditions and democratic change in the Central African country. He was accused of trying to overthrow the government, arrested and had his life threatened, Talla said.
For the printer giveaway program to continue, Talla, who is paying storage fees himself, said he needs a permanent storage warehouse.
For information call 655-4540 or download the Dell printer application at www.conscienceducameroun.org and fax to 721-2637 or e- mail to tallaco@hotmail.com.
If unable to reach him, Talla said, recipients can bring the completed application form and proof of nonprofit status with them Saturday.sandy.strickland@jacksonville .com, (904) 359-4128

Resolution of the May 16 Platform-USA meeting
The ordinary of the Executive Bureau of the Platform-USA met in Bowie on the 16/05/08 to discuss the participation of the Cameroon Diaspora in the USA to the betterment of the democratic process in Cameroon in particular and activities of the Platform-USA in general.
The bureau members discussed the dissidence in Platform-USA by a minority fraction of individuals who worked hard to prevent the taking off of the activities of Platform-USA in the USA and now claim to be so-called leaders of a fraction of platform-USA; the so-called coordinator of that dissident group, Marcel Sime, is the very person who fought hard to prevent that Platform-USA label be used during the March 06 rally in Washington DC , who called Cameroonians in the USA to misinform them that the March 14 rally of Platform-USA was cancelled , who adamantly refuse to relinquish the Platform-USA megaphone in his possession simply because he was opposed to the March 14 Platform-USA’s rally against the change of constitution in Cameroon.
Moreover, those individuals failed to attend several platform-USA preparatory meetings, to pay their contribution to the activities of the Platform-USA, but instead associated with some political parties and secessionist groups in the USA to prevent the political dominance of Platform-USA leaded by Corantin Talla and other dedicated Cameroonians in the US diaspora. Those dedicated Cameroonians, members of PLATFORM-USA (Diaspora Camerounaise pour l’Alternance en 2011), who regularly attended Platform-USA meetings and paid their dues, have remained loyal to the reel Platform-USA, the Platform-USA of actions and not talk, the Platform-USA who spearheaded the March 06 and March 14 platform-USA rallies in the DC and not the one that called for the boycott of those important Diaspora events.
The resolutions of May 12 Platform-USA emergency meeting as well as the resolutions of the April 19 meeting were upheld in light of the above-mentioned anti Platform-USA activities led by the individuals suspended by those resolutions, and because the representatives of the Civil Society Platform for Democracy in Cameroon (Platform-Kamga Hilaire) in the USA failed to abide by the terms of a May 14 conference call agreement reached in order to resolve the current dissidence crisis in Platform-USA. That agreement called for a temporary freeze of email sending by each party till a solution to the current crisis is found. Unfortunately, an email from Hilaire Kamga, who is determined to divide the Diaspora for unknown reasons, put an end to that agreement and opened the doors for more crisis within the Diaspora organization
MANDATE
The Executive Bureau of the Diaspora Camerounaise pour l’Alternance en 2011 (Platform-USA) unanimously gives mandate to the Temporary Steering Committee of Platform-USA to go ahead to organize their meeting of 25 May 2008.
The Executive Bureau of Platform-USA reaffirms the autonomy of Platform-USA vis a vis a certain Yaoundé-Based Civil Society Platform for Democracy and calls upon all members of Platform USA to further the struggle for peaceful democratic transition in Cameroon under as an independent Diaspora organization with various civil society organizations in Cameroun. While congratulating all efforts deployed by members of Platform USA to always welcome into the Platform USA many structures or persons who stand for the Platform’s ideologies. Equally the Executive Bureau urged the members of Platform USA to remain vigilant against any divergence tendency or moves within the Platform USA.
VALIDATION
Diaspora Camerounaise pour l’Alternance en 2011(PLATFORM-USA), which is a USA-registered organization, independent from any Cameroon-based organization is the only PLATFORM-USA; the one that brought Platform-USA label in the light lime through actions and not just talking and claim of its creation.
PLATFORM-USA promised more actions in support of the dynamic for the betterment of political processes and structures in Cameroon.
PLATFORM-USA call upon Cameroonians to talk less and act more.

- Adoption d'un nouveau nom pour notre organisation qui cadre bien avec avec notre mission;
- Creation d'un organigramme de la plateforme-usa et elections et/ou nominations de certains membres aux postes de responsabilites;
- Creation des commissions de travail, notamment la commission diplomatique en charge du lobbying internationale, la commission finance en charge de la mobilisation des moyens financiers et materiels pour soutenir nos actions multiformes, la commission juridique en charge des modules legaux de nos actions;

- Redaction d'une lettre ouverte de mobilization et de galvanisation au peuple camerounais;

Temporary Steering Committee of PlatForm USA
Coordinator – Corantin Talla
Vice-Coordinator - Kenneth Ndeh
Vice-Coordinator- Jean-Marc Nken
Organization Secretary – Billy Mukoi
Assistant Organization Secretary- Emilie Monkam
Youth Secretary- Wilfried Djoko
PlatForm USA was launched on February 24, 2008 in Maryland as an autonomous Diaspora organization committed to work with diverse civil societies organizations in Cameroon. The Platform-USA was later on dubbed Diaspora Camerounaise pour l’Alternance en 2011 for strategic reason and after consultation of the majority of the members of Platform-USA, and by an unanimous vote of the members of platform- USA ,present at the April 19 Meeting. During that same meeting that was held at 7411 Riggs Road, Ste 202 Hyattsville Maryland 20783, new members of Platform-USA were elected. The position of Spokesperson of Platform-USA has been suppressed.
The temporary steering committee of PlatForm USA is currently working hard to bring in as many Cameroonians as possible to the Coalition before the organization of elections for a permanent Executive Bureau for PlatForm USA. This is to ensure that every Cameroonian in the US who is willing to work for change in Cameroon in 2011 has the opportunity to hear about the Coalition, find time to attend its meetings, and be able to tender his/her candidature for any elected office. We will continue to inform the public about our activities and events through emails and on our websites at www.platformusa.blogspot.com www.platformusa.wordpress.com
As such all PlatForm USA members, supporters, and sympathizers are invited to the Continental Forum preparatory Meeting of PlatForm USA which will take place as scheduled below.
